Creative Ecologies was an experimental group residency at the Headlands Center for the Arts (Sausalito, CA) in Winter of 2011. Participants included T. Allan Comp, U.S. Department of the Interior; Amy Franceschini, Future Farmer and artist; Cynthia Hooper, Eco-artist; Patricia Johanson, Environmental artist; Philip Ross, Critter Salon founder and mushroom artist; Susan Thering, Professor of Landscape Architecture, University of Wisconsin, Madison; Rosten Woo, Founder and Former Executive Director Center for Urban Pedagogy; and myself. While at the residency I wrote essays on past work, shot footage for my video Local Control, attended lectures by visiting ecological artists (eg. CLUI, Sue Spaid, and Daniel McCormick), organized a public sing-a-long with Rosten Woo called “Do You Have A Radical Proposal?”, and did in depth sharing and discussion about specific past work by my fellow residents.
