I am involved with a number of exhibits this fall and I couldn’t be more excited about them. One is up in Chicago right now: Unfurling curated by Never The Same, the group I am a co-initiator of (with Rebecca Zorach), and has several big events coming up the next two weekends. Another is opening next weekend in Chicago at the exhibition venue I help to run, Art In These Times. Otherwise, check out the Crisis Image Archives project I organized opening this fall in Kansas City and Portland. And finally, Never The Same was invited to include our ephemera archive in the Athens Biennale. We picked 30 items from our collection (totaling about 1500 now) to send to Athens for our first ever archive “unfurling” outside of Chicago! Details and links on all this below.
As the fall becomes fall I am looking forward to a slow down to do some writing for the book on Immersive Life Practices I am developing with the Sullivan Galleries at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and prepare for a residency in Santa Ana CA next spring at the Grand Central Art Center in Cal State Fullerton. The residency will use a Ronald Reagan speech about life in 2076 as a jumping off point and there will be time capsule burials and sci-fi writing workshops held up and down the coast of California – let me know if you know someone who might want to get involved.
In the fall I am preparing to enter the adjunct professor hustle, or at least to dip my toe in and see how it feels!
On a personal note, my parents have temporarily relocated to Chicago for a trial-period to see if they want to retire in the big city. This has brought a new dimension of nearby family that I haven’t had for my whole adult life and has been immensely fun and rewarding.
Holler at me and tell me what you think about this speech by Ronald Reagan or whatever else you are thinking about.
